R is for Rainbow!

This week we have been learning about the letter R as well as patterns.
We have been looking at lots of different colour patterns and noticed that a rainbow has a colour pattern because every rainbow has the same colours.

We made our very own rainbows and had so much fun doing it….

Patterns, patterns & more patterns!

This week we have been exploring different types of patterns… colour, shape and size patterns!
Because Miss Costa couldn’t trick us with finishing her patterns, she decided to give us a challenge!
We had to close our eyes and imagine a pattern that had “4 and 6” in it…. and then make it! We did that really well, so then we had to imagine a pattern that had  “2, 4 and 6 in it”. We made so many different colour patterns using 2, 4 and 6! So many of us tricked Miss Costa with our patterns she had to write down the number so she could see the pattern!
Check out our very detailed colour patterns and tell us what you think!

A pattern is something that goes over and over again. -Anthony

A pattern is something colourful and it keeps repeating. – Jack

A pattern can be colourful. -James

A pattern can have two colours. – Ryan

Prepositions

We have been learning about prepositions!
We watched a video clip about a monkey hiding! You can find it here!
After watching it, we identified all the prepositions we heard.
We then had to draw a picture of our own monkey hiding and then we wrote a sentence to match our picture.
Check out some of our writing!

Caritas Circus Day!

As part of our almsgiving for Lent and an action for Social Justice we came to school dressed as circus performers and donated a gold coin. We were very lucky to use different circus equipment and had so much fun ‘clowning around.’
How cute do we look in our costumes!

Our Families

Prep C have been learning about our families and how important they are to us.
We also looked at Jesus’ family and the similarities and differences between our family and Jesus’ family.
We discussed Jesus’ Last Supper with his friends and how we celebrate special occasions with our families just like Jesus did.
Check out our drawings! Don’t they look cute!
We’d love to hear what you think!

The Rainbow Fish – “The Rainbow Fish shared his scales left and right , and the more he gave away, the more delighted he became.”

We have been learning about St Mary’s 4 B’s.
We read the story of The Rainbow Fish and discussed whether The Rainbow Fish was being friendly and respectful.
Prep C students, you might like to discuss The Rainbow Fish with your parents and help them post a comment on our blog about what you learnt from reading the story!

Prep C Ice-Cream Pictograph

In Prep C we have been exploring different pictographs. We made pictographs together on the Interactive Whiteboard in Rainforest Maths and we even made our own colour pictographs! That was so much fun!
Today we made a class pictograph showing our “Favourite Ice-Cream Flavours!”
After each of us made our ice-cream, we added our ice-cream to the graph. We then had a class discussion about our findings and made generalisations using our graph.

Some we found:
Rainbow is the most popular ice-cream in Prep C.
Chocolate is the least favourite ice-cream.
• 10 people like rainbow ice-cream
• 3 people like bubble gum ice-cream.
• 7 people like strawberry ice-cream
• 4 people like choc-mint ice-cream.
• Only 1 person likes chocolate ice-cream

We decided that we all LOVE ice-cream!
We had some fun and sang “I scream, you scream we all scream for ice-cream” when we finished putting our graph together!

B is for BUBBLES!

One of the many letters we have been learning about is the letter B!
We have been singing letter songs like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5D3ySh7s2c to help us learn ‘b’ words!
We learnt B is the beginning of many words, like big… bounce.. boat… boy… and of course, wonderful BUBBLES!
We went outside to blow lots of bubbles! Then we had so much fun writing about our bubble blowing experience.
Some sentences were…
I can see big bubbles.
I can see rainbow bubbles.
I can see sparkly bubbles.
I can see different bubbles.
I can see lots of bubbles.

We are getting so good at stretching words out to hear some of the letters we can write!
Miss Costa was SO proud!

Brain Gym – Lazy 8’s

Make a video of your own at Animoto.

We have been doing lots of Brain Gym and one particular exercise which targets our hand-eye coordination is “Lazy 8’s”.
According to LiveStrong.com, Brain Gym:
increases visual tracking, memory and attention span as well as exercising both halves of the brain.

Some of us found practising Lazy 8’s really tricky but once Miss Costa helped start us, we got the hang of it and just kept on going!
